The project “Support person service for the integration of new immigrants in Estonia" is designed for new immigrants that are third-country nationals, have recently arrived in Estonia to live here, have been living in Estonia less than three years and have legitimate grounds to stay in Estonia.

The purpose of MISA’s project is to strengthen the support person network and increase the state’s capacity and readiness to provide necessary assistance to the target group to manage living in Estonia and integrating into Estonian society.

The project offers the support person service to at least 60 new immigrants throughout Estonia and is provided by support persons that have undergone appropriate training.

The support service considers the adaptation needs of the particular person and includes the following:

• provision of information about various language learning, employment, education, etc. opportunities, medical care, various social services in Estonia;
• informing about the activities of the MISA adaptation programme;
• introducing the organisation of Estonian society, way of life, culture, etc. by way of tours;
• if necessary, provision of other support services (e.g. interpreting conversation at a meeting with a doctor or schoolteacher and linguistic support);
• if necessary, offering opportunities for job finding training courses and work clubs.

The support person service is provided by Johannes Mihkelsoni Keskus, the winner of the MISA project competition.

Within the framework of the project, an e-assistance platform for new immigrants has been launched at www.e-teenus.blogspot.com.

The project runs from 1 August 2012 to 30 November 2013.

Integration and Migration Foundation Our People finances the project through the state budget from the European Fund for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals and the Ministry of Culture. The project amount is 29,986 euro.
