Foundation to support human rights projects
14.04.2014

PRESS RELEASE

The Integration and Migration Foundation has launched a project competition which will see support provided to organisations dealing with human rights so as to ensure their development and ability to carry out research.

The aims of the competition are to increase awareness among Estonian residents of human rights and to promote the equal treatment and integration into Estonian society of people from different ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.

“The basis of successful integration is respect for the principles of the rule of law, personal freedom and human rights,” said Civic Education and Migration Unit coordinator Ruslan Prohhorenko. “That’s why it’s so important for society to understand these basics, and to deal with this field alongside other integration projects.”

Prohhorenko explained that the foundation is supporting the publication of information materials on human rights, as well as the organisation of training events, conferences, seminars and information days.

“People can also apply for financing for the promotion of legislation dealing with equal treatment, for example, or to arrange round tables,” he said. “We’re also looking to support the conducting and publishing of research on different topics.”

The ‘Development and research activities in the field of human rights’ project competition is open to applications from non-profit organisations and foundations whose primary activity according to their articles of association is the defence of human rights. The budget for the competition is 21,500 euros. The deadline for the submission of projects is 2 May.

For those interested in applying, an information day will be held at 13:00 on 17 April at the foundation’s offices at Lõõtsa 2a, Tallinn. The event will focus on the terms and conditions of the competition. Please register for the event in advance by e-mailing ruslan.prohhorenko@meis.ee. The competition guidelines and its terms and conditions can be found on the website of the Integration and Migration Foundation.

The competition is being financed from the state budget via the Ministry of Culture.
