Competition open for integration-related development and media awards

A competition for development and media awards in the field of integration in 2013 has been launched by the Integration and Migration Foundation Our People (MISA) in association with the Ministry of Culture.

“Development awards will be granted in three categories: in the first category, it is possible to apply for awards for projects and activities aimed at introducing or helping to preserve the cultures of the various ethnic groups living in Estonia. Two awards are granted in this category and each of them amounts to one thousand euros,” explained Kristi Anniste, Coordinator of the Civic Education and Migration Unit at MISA.

“Joint activities that support integration is the second field in which awards can be won. Initiatives that have successfully promoted cooperation activities between Estonians and Estonian residents of other nationalities and that enrich and strengthen the cultural space of Estonia are welcome to apply in this category,” added Anniste.

MISA and the Ministry of Culture also encourage everyone to apply with activities that have supported the creation of contacts between nationalities and a common information space. Two awards will be granted in this category, each of them one thousand euros. “Youth projects can compete for one award of one thousand euros in the third category. We’re hoping to hear about joint activities organised by and for young people who support integration, which have been carried out by Estonian residents up to 26 years of age and in which young Estonians and young people of other nationalities living in Estonia have participated together,” said Anniste.

In addition to the development awards, MISA will also grant two media awards of one thousand euros to journalists, media channels or publications that have made a significant contribution to valuing mutual understanding between cultures and tolerance. The evaluation committee will consider the diversity of covering the topic of integration when making its decision and projects from both Estonian- and Russian-language media channels are welcome.

The deadline for the submission of applications is 13 May and they must be submitted in Estonian using the development or media award application form available on the MISA website. Application guidelines and conditions can be found here.

These development and media awards are financed from the state budget via the Ministry of Culture.
