Foundation supports human rights projects

The Integration and Migration Foundation has granted a total of €17,415 to two projects focussing on the protection of human rights.

Based on the decision of the assessment committee, the funding was awarded to the Estonian Human Rights Centre Foundation and the NPO Mondo.

“Mondo’s ‘Human rights workshops and materials for students and teachers’ project will see 20 workshops held in both Estonian- and Russian-language schools, involving at least 500 students,” explained the Integration and Migration Foundation’s Civic Education and Migration Unit coordinator Ruslan Prohhorenko. “Russian-language teaching materials will also be published which are based on an Amnesty International human rights course, and teachers and youth workers will be trained on how to use the materials.”

The target group of the Estonian Human Rights Centre Foundation project ‘Promoting the human rights situation in Estonia 2014’ is the entire population of the country, but more specifically minorities whose rights can be infringed. A conference focussing on equal treatment and a strategy seminar will be organised as part of the project, which will also lead to the publication of a variety of information materials and to the updating of the centre’s website. The aims of the project are to raise people’s awareness of the principle of equal treatment and to create a platform on which to report potential cases of unequal treatment. Both projects launched their activities in June.

The Integration and Migration Foundation is supporting projects protecting human rights for the first time this year. The aims of the competition are to increase awareness among Estonian residents of human rights and to promote the equal treatment and integration into Estonian society of people from different ethnic and linguistic backgrounds. The competition is being financed from the state budget via the Ministry of Culture.
