Organisers sought for youth language camps
08.03.2017

PRESS RELEASE

The Integration and Migration Foundation Our People (MISA) is looking for organisers for language camps to be held in summer in which young ethnic Estonians living outside of Estonia will participate.

MISA is calling on potential organisers to submit tenders for the procurement, the aim of which is to order the language camp service for the following periods:

- 27 June-7 July;

- 18-28 July; and

- 1-11 August.

The camps must provide youngsters with Estonian roots with the chance to take part in purposeful and well-organised language training, to communicate in a camp setting with their Estonian peers, to participate in activities together, to play sports and come up with their own activities, to find out about Estonia and its culture and to go on excursions.

MISA’s Head of Language and Cultural Immersion Jana Tondi says previous participants have all agreed that their Estonian is much better at the end of the camp than it was when they arrived. “The kids that have been involved have said that because they live abroad, they gradually tend to lose their Estonian,” she said. “But they really improve while they’re at the camps, and keep in touch with the friends they make there afterwards as well – in Estonian.”

The camps are open to young people aged 13-18 with Estonian roots who live outside of Estonia. Registration is open until 4 April via the MISA website.

Youngsters are selected to take part in the camps based on the list of names submitted to MISA. Young people with Estonian as their mother tongue support the language studies of the foreign Estonian youngsters attending the camps. Selecting and instructing these young mentors and getting them involved are the responsibility of the bidder.

A total of 90 youngsters will attend the three camps: 30 at each, of whom at least 22 shall be from outside of Estonia.

The information needed to submit a tender and more detailed terms and conditions can be found online at http://www.meis.ee/kaimasolevad-konkursid?project_id=687.

Tenders should be submitted to the e-public procurement registry by 11:00 on 21 March.

An agreement will be entered into with the bidder behind the winning tender in April.

The camps are being organised as part of the national ‘Countrymen programme 2014-2020’ https://www.hm.ee/sites/default/files/rahvuskaaslaste_programm_2014_2020.pdf   and the EV100 project of the Government Office marking the centenary of the Estonian republic, which are designed to support the organisation in 2017 and 2018 of language camps for Estonian youngsters living outside of the country.

These activities accord with Programme Measure 1: Support for the teaching of Estonian and teaching in Estonian in schools abroad and for the studies of foreign Estonians in Estonia.MISA’s partner in the organisation of the 2018 camps is the EV100 project of the Government Office.
